Polygon (MATIC / POL) Price History
Historical USD Price Milestones
Polygon has gone through dramatic price cycles since its launch in 2020. From a starting price of $0.013 in January 2020, the token reached highs above $2.80 at its all-time peak before transitioning to a new ticker — POL — in September 2024.
2020: Launch and First Rally
The trading price of Polygon was recorded at $0.013 in January 2020 and experienced a gradual increase to reach $0.17 by December 2020. The token was still operating under its original MATIC Network branding during this period. Low liquidity and limited awareness kept prices subdued for most of the year.
2021: The Bull Run Peak
2021 was the breakout year for MATIC. The token climbed from under $0.02 in January to an all-time high above $2.80 in December 2021, representing a gain of more than 14,000% in twelve months. The boom was fuelled by Ethereum's high gas fees pushing users toward Layer-2 solutions, a surge in DeFi activity on Polygon, and high-profile integrations with Aave, Uniswap, and other blue-chip protocols.
2022: Crypto Winter
The broader crypto market collapse of 2022 hit MATIC hard. Prices fell from over $2.50 in January to under $0.80 by the end of the year, with a low of around $0.32 during the market-wide capitulation in June 2022. Despite the price decline, Polygon continued to sign partnerships and develop its zero-knowledge technology stack.
2023: Recovery and Stability
In 2023, with market sentiment improving, Polygon (MATIC) regained its $1 mark. Activity was driven by renewed interest in NFTs, gaming applications, and enterprise blockchain pilots. The token traded in a range of $0.50–$1.30 for most of the year before losing multiple support levels in late 2023 and early 2024.
2024: The POL Transition
During a volatile bull run in March 2024, POL (formerly MATIC) reached approximately $1.29 — its new all-time high under the POL ticker. The MATIC-to-POL migration officially began on September 4, 2024. Immediately after the transition, POL experienced a price drop of about 3% to $0.32, triggered by migration uncertainties. Despite this, the price recovered to $0.68 by year-end.
The MATIC-to-POL migration officially began on September 4, 2024, marking a new strategic era for the Polygon 2.0 ecosystem.

2025: Worst Year on Record
2025 was the worst performing year in Polygon's history. POL decreased by approximately 77.79%, falling from $0.4511 at the start of the year to $0.1002 by year-end. POL hit its all-time low under the new ticker of $0.1533 on April 7, 2025. The decline was driven by weak altcoin sentiment, heavy competition from rival Layer-2 networks, and broader macroeconomic pressure.
2026: Recovery Attempt
As of early 2026, POL is trading near $0.09–$0.10, holding above the critical $0.10 support level. In January 2026 it staged a 33% weekly rally, its largest short-term move in over a year, before retracing. The lowest recorded price in 2026 was $0.08379 on February 6, 2026.
